Maggie Boggs

Maggie Boggs is an artist and interior designer living and working in New Orleans, LA. Her painting process begins from solitary introspection, and the forced slowdown of the COVID-19 pandemic allowed the time to dive into indistinct portions of her thoughts. Putting her finger on a concrete feeling is the constant unanswered question; thus, exploring a concept of decay and rebirth that echoes a larger story of the ebb and flow of relationships, long-term survival, and the general cycles of natural life.

“My process has always begun from solitary introspection based off my current perspective of the world around me. From there, I visualize adapting these sights and emotions through the lends of my personal color theory. The colors’ harmony and dissonance allude to distant memories, reactions to the present, and a yearning for the future. Each color choice, transparent layer, and thick stroke is carefully selected and chosen by an internal process.”

“As many of us have felt an abrupt halt to an overstimulating, do it all mentality this year, we have been forced to slow down whether voluntarily or after weeks of initial denial. I have chosen to dive into the present with acceptance that the future is unknown.

Vivid dreaming has always been a part of me, and putting my finger on a feeling is the constant unanswered question. I explore this through a sense of decay and rebirth in the creative process of my paintings, which echoes a larger story of the ebb and flow of relationships, long-term survival, and general cycles of natural life.”
